Barnes & Noble Nook HD+ Review

nook-hd-plusBarnes and Noble Nook HD+ is an upgraded version of the old Nook HD.

Hardware

The design of the new Nook HD+ is almost the same as the old version. In Nook HD+  The bezel still surrounds the display and a lowercase “n” button below the screen. The most noticeable change in the design   is the small hole at the bottom left corner.  Due to this design change the micro SD slot in Nook HD+ has been moved and now it sits at the bottom edge next to the proprietary charging port

It measures at 9.5 x 6.4 inches and weighs 18.2 ounces, which makes it larger and heavier than the older version. The back side of   is covered in soft touch material with the lowercase “n” logo in the center and two stereo speakers hidden under a grille at the bottom. On the top end you will find the headphones jack and the volume rocker.

Nook HD+ has a 9 inches HD display with 1920 x 1280 resolutions. It has balanced colors and excellent viewing angels. Nook HD+ is powered by a 1.5 GHz dual core OMAP 4470 CPU.Nook HD+ has fast performance and has a good response time.

Software

The Nook HD+ has runs on a skinned version of Ice Cream Sandwich. The user interface is called “paper like”.  The content experience  is almost the same as the older version. The home page is almost blank; on the top of the page is a row of recently used contents, a welcoming note, Wi-Fi, time and date, and an icon for battery life. At the bottom of the page you will find buttons for library, web browser, apps, email, the Nook Shop and a search bar.

As stated above, you get the same user experience as the smaller screen Nook HD, the only differences the screen size. You get the same page curl animation on Nook HD+ as the old version. You also get the Comic view feature to read comic books. With the parental control feature, parents can limit the usage of their kids, thus turning this tablet into a kid friendly tablet. The bigger screen adds more colors and life to children books.

The new Nook HD+ comes with Nook Video service, with which you can watch movies and TV shows. The high resolution display of  adds an extra layer of excitement to the movies and gives a really nice movie experience.

Conclusion

To sum it all up, the new Barnes and Noble Nook HD+ is comfortable to hold, it has a beautiful high resolution display and it gives a nice reading expertise. This is a perfect reading device but it is quite limited when it comes to apps or customization.
